Council buys Huish Park

Council buys Huish Park

Dec 4, 2020

Councilors have voted to buy Yeovil Town Football Club’s ground and land surrounding the Huish Park stadium. The purchase was agreed at a meeting yesterday (3 Dec 2020) of South Somerset District Council with all members voting in favour of it. The meeting was told that Yeovil Town was in financial difficulties that had been caused in the main by the Covid pandemic with crowds not allowed to attend Huish Park on match days. A 30-year lease will be put in place between the Council and Yeovil Town with the football club having the option to buy back the site if they so wished. The Council hasn’t said how much it's paying but it is known the price includes the lifting of restrictive covenants that prevent Huish Park from being used for anything other than leisure and recreational purposes.
