ONE Somerset wins support of Yeovil MP

ONE Somerset wins support of Yeovil MP

Sep 15, 2020

Yeovil MP Marcus Fysh has come out in support of scrapping Somerset’s four district councils and the County Council and replacing them with just one council to run all local government services in Somerset, the so-called ONE Somerset option. Mr Fysh has sent a letter to town and parish councils saying that in his opinion creating one large unitary authority for the whole of Somerset would be 'good for all'. Meanwhile, the leaders of Somerset's district councils, South Somerset, Taunton and West Somerset, Sedgemoor and Mendip - have put forward an alternative proposal, called ‘Stronger Somerset’. This would still see the existing council system abolished, but instead of a single council, ‘Stronger Somerset’ would create one unitary authority to represent East Somerset and a second separate unitary council to represent the Western side of Somerset that would include Yeovil.
