More than 70 jobs are at risk at one of Yeovil’s largest employers. Honeywell Aerospace have told staff that large scale redundancies are being planned at the Yeovil site. Honeywell has blamed educed demand for its products and the Coronavirus pandemic for the proposed job cuts.

There have been no new Covid-19 confirmed cases in the latest figures issued by Public Health England. The figures relate to the 24 hours to 5pm on Wednesday and apply to the Somerset local authority area. The number of people to test positive with Coronavirus in South Somerset remains at 331.

An inquest into the death of a Chard man has been told that he died due to exposure to asbestos. John Humphries worked as a brake fitter for British Railways, removing brake linings that contained asbestos and replacing them with new ones that also contained asbestos. Somerset Coroner, Tony Williams, concluded that Mr Humprhies died from an industrial disease, linked to asbestos.

A building plot for 50 homes in Merriot could soon change hands. The land in Church Lane is owned by developers Merriott LVA who were given permission to build on it earlier this year. They’ve now decided to sell the site and not develop it themselves.
