Oscar Mayer in Chard has announced plans to shut its factory in the town with the loss of 900 jobs. Staff were told yesterday that the site could close within 12-months with production of ready meals transferring to other Oscar Mayer sites around the UK. A consultation period with staff will start on November 10th and run for 45 days after which, the company says, a final decision on the future of the Chard factory will be made.

E-scooters have arrived in Yeovil with a trial initiative and 17 parking bays across the town. People with a full or provisional driving licence will be able to pick-up an e-scooter and travel across the town, finishing their journey at another parking bay. The scheme, launched by South Somerset District Council, will operate under the government’s e-scooter initiative.

A drone’s been used to search for stolen farm vehicles in Tintinhull. Police were tipped-off about several vehicles having been hidden in a hedge. A tractor and telehandler valued at £30,000 were located when the flying camera was launched.

Police are warning about the dangers of so-called 'romance fraud'. It follows an incident in which a woman was conned out of £10,000 by a man she met online. She believed the man wanted a relationship but it turned out to be a hoax. Police say people who feel they are at risk should speak to Action Fraud.
