Castle Cary gun siege - man cleared of attempted murder

Castle Cary gun siege - man cleared of attempted murder

Nov 7, 2019

A man who fired a shotgun during a police siege at Castle Cary has been cleared of two counts of attempted murder.

Bristol Crown Court was told that Daniel Hannam fired the weapon after police arrived at his former girls friend’s home to arrest him.

Hannam told the Court that he aimed the shotgun into the air and was not trying to kill the police.

A jury unanimously acquitted him of attempted murder but did find him guilty of using an illegal firearm.

He will be sentenced at a later date.
