Scorer hangs up his pencil

Jan 7, 2019

Somerset Official scorer, Gerry Stickley has hung up his pencil for the last time.

He has announced that he will be retiring from his post as First XI scorer, bringing an end to his 37 year association with Somerset.

“It all started in the early 1980s,” he said when we spoke to him about his time with the Club. “I was umpiring Minor County matches for Dorset and in those days Somerset Seconds were involved with that. I umpired a game for them at Westland’s, Yeovil against Cheshire and afterwards Peter Robinson, the Second XI coach, asked me if I’d like to do some more games. That’s where it all started.”
