Paddy Ashdown has died

Paddy Ashdown has died aged 77 after a short illness.

The former MP for Yeovil, who lived in Norton-sub-Hamdon, passed away on Saturday evening (22nd Dec).

He had been diagnosed with bladder cancer in October.

Lord Ashdown led the Lib Dems between 1988 and 1999 and was the party's longest-serving leader. 

He served as the United Nations' high representative in Bosnia-Herzegovina after stepping down as Yeovil MP in 2001, helping steer the country through its post-war reconstruction.
