Scorer hangs up his pencil

Somerset Official scorer, Gerry Stickley has hung up his pencil for the last time.

He has announced that he will be retiring from his post as First XI scorer, bringing an end to his 37 year association with Somerset.

“It all started in the early 1980s,” he said when we spoke to him about his time with the Club. “I was umpiring Minor County matches for Dorset and in those days Somerset Seconds were involved with that. I umpired a game for them at Westland’s, Yeovil against Cheshire and afterwards Peter Robinson, the Second XI coach, asked me if I’d like to do some more games. That’s where it all started.”

Somerset Youngster shine in India

Somerset players Kasey Aldridge, Lewis Goldsworthy, Tom Lammonby and Will Smeed are now back in the UK after spending 20 days in Bangalore at a Young Lions training camp.

Goldsworthy saved his best until the last match of the training camp and in the three-day match against Karnataka State Under 23s the right handed batsman scored 100 before retiring with a tight hamstring.

North Perrott cricket signing

North Perrott Cricket Club has confirmed that New Zealand all-rounder Jack Henderson will be returning to the club again for next season. Henderson who contributed with the bat and ball last season scored nearly 700 runs and has started off in fine form back in New Zealand. Meanwhile, Perrott’s young batsman Alex Eckland has been performing well for Australien side Adelaide as he spends the winter with the Australian team.
